Meet OSU’s Fabulous AOSA Trustee – Erica Keller

Summer is here, and each member of the AOSA Board of Trustees are still hard at work, having recently prepared their respective school for this year’s Optometry’s Meeting. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Erica Keller, AOSA Trustee from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, about her involvement and some of the hard work she has put into the position this past semester:

AOSA Trustee

Erica, please tell us a little bit about yourself:

I have lived in the same area most of my life, which makes this a pretty simple story! I am originally from Worthington, Ohio, which is a suburb of Columbus, and I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 2012. Attending Ohio State for optometry school was a no-brainer!

What made you want to be a Trustee?

I heard about the Trustee position from a former employer who held the position when she attended OSU. Unsurprisingly, she had nothing but great things to say about the AOSA. After hearing more about the organization, I knew I wanted to run for Trustee, and the rest is history!

What are you most proud of having accomplished as Trustee this past semester?

AOSA TrusteeThis Spring, we held our first AOSA Student Info Night. It was a huge success! The event was held during our annual AOSA Awareness Week along with some of our other big events of the year like Student Bowl, EyeBall, and the AOA-PAC drive. It’s a great week and a good way for students to kick back and relax with some fun events mid-semester. A big shout out to the OSU AOSA board! It wouldn’t be possible without their dedication.

What are your plans for after optometry school at this point?

Like so many others, I am still unsure of what route I will take after school. The opportunities are endless and I’m hoping that my experience in different clinics during my third year will give me a better idea of which direction I want to go after graduation.

One of the unique parts about attending school at OSU is the opportunity to live in a fraternity with many classmates. What has being a member of the only optometry fraternity been like?

EPEIt’s been amazing. I love being a part of Epsilon Psi Epsilon and the support, memories, friendship, and just absolute fun it has provided. EΨE hosts OSU tailgates in the fall, rush week in the winter, and social events to welcome in the spring season. There is never a boring moment at the EΨE house. Epsilon Psi Epsilon (pictured on the right), the only live-in Optometric Fraternity. Did I mention it has two full exam lanes built
in?!

If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be?

Professor X is my main mutant, and telepathy is pretty sweet. But telekinesis would be the super power I would choose if I could have one!
