Distinguishing Dot Blot / Micro Aneurysm

First off keep the following in mind…

– Cotton wool spots last about 6 weeks
– Flame Hemorrhages last about 6 weeks
– Dot Blot Hemorrhages last about 6 months
– Microaneurysm’s last >6 months

–> To differentiate between dot blot hemorrhages, and a micro-aneurysms, have the patient back in 6 months to see if it resolved. If it did not resolve that means this is a micro aneurysm.
