1. The longer the patient has had diabetes the more likely they are to show retinopathy. 13 Years is the average time a person must be diabetic before the retinopathy shows up.

2. Diabetes can cause refractive changes, a myopic shift, therefore you must know if blood sugar is stable before you consider prescribing a new Rx.
