Vision Expo East 2014 is just around the corner…perfect timing for 3rd years to come to NYC to celebrate finishing boards, and for all students to enjoy a fun weekend! Register here, it’s quick and easy. Our OS.com Vision Expo Eastteam had a blast last year with students from all over, and we hope to see you all there again this year! This really is a fantastic way to round out your experience as an optometry student and open your eyes to the industry, business and many other aspects of the profession that you may not get to see in school.

One big reason for going to trade shows is to take advantage of the free CE courses as a student (you’ll have to pay for them as an OD). One course you shouldn’t miss is the interactive students course where you’ll learn about the products you many need for your future practice, and tips on how to interact with vendors at trade shows to get the most out of your purchasing process. This is something you will do as an OD, so get practice and experience now! You will be given a scenario and budget, then split into groups to shop the exhibit hall, and reconvene to discuss purchases and decisions made. There are tons more clinical Vision Expo Eastand business courses to choose from, such as a course on current trends in medical management, glaucoma treatment decisions, creating a digital marketing strategy for your business, etc.

Aside from CE’s, the parties and events are always a great time and good opportunity to network in a more casual, fun setting. There’s an EYE.LOVE.ROCK show that will feature student musicians from SUNY as well as OD’s performing, also a Bad Habits concert on Friday night and the Student Party iheartgutsEYEBALLat the Paramount Hotel on Saturday…and we hear the NYC nightlife isn’t too shabby either!

At our OS.com booth, we’ll be giving away the famous “plush eye balls,” twice throughout the show. These are always a hot commodity! We’re also doing another social media contest to give away an iPad…more details on
this to come shortly. Come visit us at the booth and hang out!

Still not sure about attending VEE 2014 or other trade shows? I strongly advise you to read this letter from founder Matt Geller, OD. It’s a message that will resonate with you, the student. Want more? Here’s why Rebecca Lee, our Director of Clinical Optometry and a UCBSO 2nd year, chooses VEE as here favorite trade show.
