Are you a student studying pre-optometry in the state of Florida or surrounding area? Are you thinking about pursuing a career in optometry? Well, the students at Nova Southeastern University are hosting an event that is perfect for you on October 26, 2013!
The Eye Ball is an all-day educational conference for students interested in pursuing a career in optometry; it provides students with the unique opportunity to speak face-to-face with representatives of optometry schools. This year representatives of 10 optometry schools throughout the country will be speaking on behalf of their respective institutions. Come see what you need to do to be a competitive applicant so that you can increase your odds of being extended an invitation to join one of schools in the future!
Think you’re already an expert on all things optometry school related? Well, come to the Eye Ball to learn even more about the legislative aspects of optometry or community outreach opportunities! As future primary eye care providers, it is imperative that students understand the power of legislative advocacy. The keynote speaker at the Eye Ball will be a past president of the Florida Optometric Association, and he will be discussing some of his greatest achievements in regards to the profession of optometry. The Fort Lauderdale Lions Club will also be speaking to students about their outreach efforts, eyeglass drives, and the Lions Eye Banks. This applies to pre-optometry students everywhere (not only around Florida), as the Lions Clubs is an international organization!
This year marks the 4th annual Eye Ball. The event was originally started by Nova students in 2010 and continued to grow during the following two years under the guidance of the Future Optometry Students of America, a pre-optometry club at Florida International University. This year the pre-optometry students at Nova will host the Eye Ball and have even created a theme called “Setting our Sights.” Nova’s pre-optometry club has set their sights on increasing involvement in their community, as well as through collaborative efforts with other pre-optometry students. We’re inviting you to take part in this event and “set your sights” on something, anything, and do it! Come to our Eye Ball and explore the great profession that is optometry!!
** Did we mention the event is free and lunch will be served? We are also asking for students to bring a pair of gently used eyeglasses to donate to our eyeglasses drive.
